The objective of this study was to construct a new risk estimation model for cancer incidence at different sites. The risk of developing a certain type of cancer is determined by several preclinical or environmental factors, which can be added or multiplied with each other. A beta model, which is the most often used in risk estimation, can be generalized by using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. We compared the performance of the beta model and the EM algorithm for risk estimation with respect to Pearson correlation (r), mean absolute error, and mean square error. The beta model showed good performance, but the EM algorithm showed better performance. The EM algorithm should be used to predict the risk of cancer incidence, especially risk of cancer at a certain site. This invention relates to a process for the direct metal-injection molding of metallic elements. In the past, the direct metal-injection molding process has usually been limited to the manufacture of metallic powder (e.g., stainless steel powder) by pressing it through an injection gate of a die to fill the cavity of the die. Subsequently, the metallic powder so manufactured would be utilized to manufacture a part by conventional techniques (e.g., milling, machining or forging). Such a fabrication technique is described in The Olefin Press, Methuen, Mass. at pages 17 to 20. Direct metal-injection molding has recently been recognized as an alternative means of manufacturing useful objects, not by the fabrication of metallic powder, but by directly pressing a slug of a molten metallic liquid into a mold cavity. The patent literature already contains a number of references to such direct metal-injection molding. A number of references in the patent literature are of the type in which the liquid (e.g., stainless steel) is injected into a mold cavity through a sprue which enters the cavity through a gate located on an edge or on a side of the mold. In such cases, the part is fabricated by removing the molding and then milling the edges or other details. This method is exemplified by U.S. Pat. Nos. 2,717,282, 3,568,736, 3,703,762, 3, The following is a list of files associated with this update.
